For Stanford Students and Alumni: Donating Materials to the University Archives

Administrative office records and faculty papers tell only part of the Stanford University story. Materials created by Stanford students are a core component of the University Archives, providing unique insight into student experiences both inside the classroom and elsewhere on campus.

Early student prioduction of Robin Hood.

The University Archives is committed to preserving documentation of the full range of Stanford student experience. We actively seek materials from current and former students relating to academic work, extracurricular activities, athletics, and residential life. We collect materials in a wide variety of formats, including digital files; items of particular interest include:

  • Papers, course notes, and other academic work
  • Photographs, including digital photographs
  • Audio and video recordings of campus activities
  • Publications
  • Flyers, posters, or other promotional materials
  • Scrapbooks
  • Journals
  • Correspondence, including e-mail.

We are also interested in the records of student organizations. Items of particular interest include:

  • Annual reports
  • Meeting minutes and supporting documentation
  • Correspondence of student organizations that documents programs, activities, and events
  • Constitutions and bylaws
  • Membership rosters
  • Photographs, clippings, press releases, and scrapbooks
  • Publication (2 copies)
