Draft notes:

SC Ted Sibia at Davis
The group suggests UCSC be added to the list. Ruby spoke to Cindy about a liaison:
CDC chose our liaison, Cindy Shelton. We did not get a chance to give feedback
to the liaison position, however, those who have worked with Cindy and/or have
had contact with her, felt she would be very good, strong in terms of accessibility,
support, help, & experience.
Sylvia will talk with Cecily Johns tomorrow about the Africana agreement and
get signature, etc.
Convenor responsibilities and terms (augmented during discussion from responsibilities
outlined contract);
Term--two years

passes on initiatives and information to the group from the liaison
send written report by July 1 of group activies to liaison
convene meetings
maintain roster of members
maintain documentation on each project
minutes should be rotated
website (John) will add page of LC monographs LC serials --phyllis and karen
will send list of acqusitions to the group
roster Pauline volunteered to get a draft roster to everyone.
list of suggested projects prioritzing those
LC Nairobi--what we're getting from those: easily available, cost effective
looking at su areas (e.g., dance, art, agi, and others)
Convenor: Sylvia Phyllis, Ruby, Karen were suggested as convenors/co-covenors
with experience and excellent collections, all had very good reasons not to
accept at present. Co-convenor was tried in varying forms, with Karen or Ruby,
but group felt a single convenor would be better. projects: to consider at our
next meeting [didn't phyllis suggest something??? I didn't write it down] next
meeting will be during the week of January 23rd, 2001.
Adjourned at 2:30. Sylvia
Email update December 15: UPDATE on conversations with Cecily Johns, CDC Chair,
and Cindy Shelton, CDC Africana Liaison Before signing the agreement, Cecily
would like to get a go-ahead on the agreement from the entire CDC. She would
like to make sure the entire membership is comfortable with the format, not
just the signees. In the meantime she asked me to consult with Cindy Shelton
regarding the best way to go about getting other UCs involved in the consortium.
Cindy suggested individuals I should speak with at each campus (Davis, Riverside,
San Diego and Santa Cruz), and so I will.
