British Colonies - Blue Books
- To find Blue Books at Stanford. In Searchworks, put in the name of country and blue book.
- In Socrates, use the country name as Author. Use Blue Book as title. Be sure Book is singular.
- The Blue Books for various countries contain statistics, population, newspapers
and their circulation, facts on colonial employees & their salaries, agriculture,
education, transport, imports and exports, criminal statistics, hospitals, health,
church missions, laws passed, expenditures and revenue, postage rates,
land registration fees, average prices, average wages, etc.
- The 1919 Nigeria Blue Book, for example, reveals that over 208,000 boys
were enrolled in Northern Nigerian schools,while no girls were enrolled.
However, over 4,000 girls were enrolled in Southern Nigerian schools.
- CAMP / CRL and UC Berkeley have Blue Books. In Berkeley’s catalog,
you must search, Blue book, under Journal Title
