Other useful general treatments include Weinberg (1964) Short
History of Medieval Philosophy; Marenbon
(2002) Early
medieval philosophy (480-ll50): an introduction ,
2nd ed.; Kietzman, ed. (1982) The Cambridge History of Later
Medieval Philosophy 1100-1600 (all in Green Stack). The Dictionary
of the Middle Ages, 12 vols., contains many good introductory
articles. Copleston (1950-53) A history of philosophy,
vols. 2-3, remains a standard introduction.
Medieval Philosophers, 1990, P129.D52 v.115 is a handy volume
in the series Dictionary
of Literary Biography. It includes a listing of principal works,
editions and English translations, biography and critical works.
There is a "Checklist of Further Readings" and an appendix "Translators
of the Twelfth Century: Literary Issues Raised and Impact Created."

There is a library Short-cut
Guide on the Renaissance which lists many English language sources
in the Reference Collection. The new Cambridge Companion to Renaissance
Humanism (CB361.C26 1996) should prove useful on all topics
involving cultural and intellectual history. Vol. 1 of the new Handbook
of European History 1400-1600... (2 v., D203.H36) provides socio-economic
background bringing up-to-date older volumes in The Cambridge
Economic History of Europe and the Cambridge Modern History
(v.1).Catalogue of Renaissance Philosophers, Z7125.R54 1940,
is a handy list, and v.3. Renaissance of Totok, Handbuch
der Geschicte der Philosophie (1980) has extensive bibliography
and details of editions and translations. Renaissance Humanism
1300-1550..., Z7128.H7.K64 1985 is a bibliography of English
language sources. Encyclopedia of the Renaissance (New York
: Scribner's published in association with the Renaissance Society
of America, c1999. 6 v.; HASRC CB361 .E52 1999) has won critical
acclaim.

of Erasmus: a biographical register of the Renaissance and Reformation
remains in the Information Center. It allso lists editions of
Erasmus' works. Check out the Biography
section for other collections. The 1995 guide, shelved in the Lane
Rm., L'Europe
des humanistes: XIVe-XVIIe si`ecles is a handy register
in alphabetical order of 2350 individuals, from Petrarch to Peiresc
-- deceased after 1325 and born before 1600 -- with the ancient
authors, east and west, that they transmitted. Two indexes provide
the names of the authors transmitted and the variants of the names
of the humanists.
