Read the bibliographic essay "Latin Philosophies of the Middle Ages" in Powell (1992) Medieval Studies: An Introduction, 2nd ed. Die Philosophie im lateinischen Mittelalter: ein Handbuch mit einem bio-bibliographischen Repertorium (1996) by Peter Schulthess und Ruedi Imbach is a useful starting palce for individual writers. For Augustine: Augustine through the ages: an encyclopedia (1999). Other surveys are Marenbon (1998) Medieval Philosophy Stanford only; Maurer Medieval Philosophy, 2d ed., B721.M37 1982; Research Guide to Philosophy, Chap.3, B52.T5 1983; History of Ideas: A Bibliographic Introduction, Z7125.T58 1977. Also Steenberghen Bibl. du phil. med., Z7125.S79 1974, an introduction to basic books. For the 12th Century, Europe in Transition, bibliography of the 12th Century Renaissance, Z2000.F45 1989. Medieval Rhetoric, 2nd ed., Z7004.R5.M87, covers the university Disputation. Bibliotheca lexicologiae Medii Aevi, v.1, Z7028.L47.T74, covers "Education in the Middle Ages," and Cobban (1975) The medieval universities: their development and organization is a good review of research with extensive bibliography.

Other useful general treatments include Weinberg (1964) Short History of Medieval Philosophy; Marenbon (2002) Early medieval philosophy (480-ll50): an introduction Stanford only, 2nd ed.; Kietzman, ed. (1982) The Cambridge History of Later Medieval Philosophy 1100-1600 (all in Green Stack). The Dictionary of the Middle Ages, 12 vols., contains many good introductory articles. Copleston (1950-53) A history of philosophy, vols. 2-3, remains a standard introduction.

Medieval Philosophers, 1990, P129.D52 v.115 is a handy volume in the series Dictionary of Literary Biography. It includes a listing of principal works, editions and English translations, biography and critical works. There is a "Checklist of Further Readings" and an appendix "Translators of the Twelfth Century: Literary Issues Raised and Impact Created."
