- The Kaiser Index to Black Resources, 1948-1986. (5 vols., 1992) Z1361.N39 K34. From a file compiled at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture of the New York Public Library, this covers a variety of journals and other sources.
- Spradling, Mary Mace. In Black and White: A Guide to Magazine Articles, News-paper Articles and Books concerning more than 15,000 Black Individuals and Groups. (3rd ed., 1980) 2 vols. Z1361.N39 S653. Bibliographic Table 1. Indexes a number of Black periodicals such as Ebony, The Crisis, Jet, etc., as well as other sources. It should be noted that the newspapers cited are not African American papers but rather mainstream newspapers such as the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, etc.
