Indexes, Abstracts, and Full-Text Services
- International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS)
- IBSS on CD-ROM covers in one cumulation journal articles
and books from 1981 forward for political science, economics, sociology, and
anthropology. The cumulative and interdisciplinary nature of the CD-ROM version are
major advantages. The Windows version of the SilverPlatter search software is
recommended over the DOS version. The printed equivalent for the political science
citations is the International Bibliography of Political Science, with coverage back
to 1952.
Access: IBSS on CD-ROM available at Reference Desk, Green Library.
Printed edition of
the International Bibliography of Economics is available in the
Reference Collection at Green Library (Ref Z 7164 .E2 I58).
- International Political Science Abstracts
- This abstracting service, published by the International Political Science
Association, provides citations and brief abstracts to articles in political
science journals on a world-wide basis. The CD-ROM version begins with 1989,
while the printed set began in 1951.
Access: IPSA on CD-ROM available at Reference Desk, Green Library. Earlier years
in the paper edition are in the Green Library stacks (JA 36 .I5).
- Washington Alert from Congressional Quarterly (CQ)
- Washington Alert provides a number of different files with information and
analysis on Congress and American politics. Files include Senate and House Bills,
Congressional Record, member and voting information, the CQ Weekly Report and
CQ Research Reports.
Access: Within FOLIO, select Washington Alert. Printed equivalents of
many of the sources exist. Please consult the reference services at either the Green Library
or the Jonsson Library of Government Publications.
- Inter-university Consortium
for Political and Social Research (ICSPR)
- Stanford is a member of ICPSR. Many of the datasets available from ICSPR
are already owned by Stanford, and those not yet owned can be obtained for
the user. Increasing reliance on FTP for delivery of datasets often means
relatively quick delivery of data sets not yet owned by Stanford. Access
to
the data at Stanford is provided by the Academic Data Service. ICPSR's Web
site should be used in conjunction with Stanford's own on-line public access
catalog, Socrates and Socrates II. For more information,
contact the
Academic Data Service or Stanford's Official Representative to ICSPR,

resources in various formats.
- Public Opinion Locating Library (POLL)
- Stanford users can now access the Roper Center Public Opinion Online (POLL)
database via the Academic Universe

To search POLL in Academic Universe, select General News Topics and set
the Source Material option to Wire Service Stories. Additionally, to search
only POLL you can include in the Additional Terms box the search statement:
publication (public opinion).
Direct access to POLL via telnet is available but requires an account
and password. This method of access provides files that are updated daily.
