Library Survey – Send Us Comments by May 8th
Stanford's Science and Engineering Libraries need your help
in determining future library needs for space, collections,
services. Important decisions will be made over the next few
years that will greatly influence the shape and scope of
future library support.
To help us plan, we developed a user survey. Your reponse to
it would be of enormous help. Paper copies of the survey are
available in the Swain Library and it is also available on
the web. The URL is:
http://library.stanford.edu/depts/serg/survey.html
If you have not had a chance to fill out the survey yet, I
would appreciate it if you would do so by May 8th. Many
thanks to those who have already responded.
Thank you very much for your support!

ACS Web Journals Now Available
I am very pleased to announce that journals published or co-published
by the American Chemical Society are now available to the campus community.
Work is underway to add them to the Libraries E-journal page and to do the
technical work so that you can access them from off-campus.
Full Text is Available Via the Web:
Table of Contents and Some of the Text is Available Via the Web:
Science Magazine is Available via the Web
We now have a site license for Science Magazine. The URL is:
http://www.sciencemag.com/,
which includes the full text of all articles from about January 1997 to present.
Springer-Verlag Journals Available on the Web

Here's two web pages you might want to bookmark:
Job Information on the Internet
Scouting for jobs? There's a number of resources on the web
that are available. Be sure to check out:
See also URLs at the end of this article. For the long term, my
plan is to identify resources that should be added to the CPPC
list rather than to maintain a separate list. That way you can
have one-stop shopping. Note that the web pages for societies
may also include job postings.
After checking identifying potential jobs, you might want to
visit the web site for the organization as many now contain
detailed information on activities and resources that are
available. If you are considering an academic institution,
be sure to check out the library's web pages too as it is a
unit that will have a key role in supporting your efforts.
Because a lot of information is not on the web, here's some
additional search tips:
- Consult a directory that contains a geographic index to
determine what companies are in an area (e.g. Directory of
American Research and Technology Swain Ref T 176 .I65).
- Search the organization index in CAS Online, SciSearch or
ABI Inform (a business database) to see what research and news
is being published by or about an organization. The organization
indexes include names of corporations, academic institutions,
and even government labs.
- Search US Patents via the IBM Patent Server to see what
patents a company is publising. The URL is:
http://www.patents.ibm.com/ibm.html.
In corporations, most
research is published in patents rather than in journals
because the company wants to own the intellectual property
rights of the research.
- Contact the CPPC, Swain Library, or Business Library staff
if you need help. That's why we're here!
- Academic Position Network
- Searchable by geographic location, subject area of interest,
type of position, and type of institution.
- ACS Job Bank
- Includes jobs posted in C&E News. Must enter your ACS membership
number. I'm a member and can do a search for you if needed.
- America's Job Bank: a Product of the Public Employment Service
- Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor and NYSERNet, search
by keyword, and occupational code. Links to employers' sites,
and employment agencies.
- Bio Online Career Center
- Updated weekly, includes bioscience/biotechnology jobs plus
career guides.
- Biospace
- California Servers
- Includes CA companies but have to browse list by company name.
- Career Choices for Chemical Engineers: Online Resources
- Career Magazine
- Includes job opening database that is searchable by location,
skills and title.
- Career Mosaic
- Search by keyword, job title, company, city, state, zip code,
and country.
- Chemistry and Industry Magazines Job Search

region, sector, area of chemistry and type of jobs.
