Biotech Company Financial Information
The Jackson Business Library
has many resources that contain financial information. See:
Research Guides: Company Information.
Web sites for companies may also contain financial information in the section to
their shareholders. Below are several resources that you can use via the web. If these
web resources do not contain the information you need, go to the
Jackson Business Library and consult
their resources.
- Academic Universe
- web access to selected Lexis-Nexis files. Stanford only.
- Search for Company News or Company Financial Information.
Results include full-text documents. Search Biographical Information
to find information originally published in American Men and Women of Science
and the Complete Marquis Who’s Who Biographies. Use
Reference and Directories to use Forbes Annual Directory, Quotations,
Eventline (directory of meetings and conferences), and other resources such
as World Business Opportunities and the International Trade Show. Also includes
many legal documents.
- ABI/Inform (1971+) Stanford Only.
- From ProQuest - many fulltext articles in
business, finance, management, etc. beginning 1991 and Wall Street Journal,
fulltext 1995+.
One of the largest electronic sources of business information. Citations provide
complete bibliographic information, indexing, and abstracts from more than 1,000
business journals. More than half of those sources are indexed cover-to-cover.
More than 350 are international journals that provide business news and analysis
from around the world.

- LifeSciencesWorld
- A comprehensive directory of international links covering the
fields of biotechnologies and life sciences, as well as a
Biotechnology Career Center and a Biotech News Center.
- Web of Science (SciSearch)
— Web version of Science Citation Index and Current Contents. Stanford faculty and students only.
- SciSearch includes Science Citation Index and all of the Current Contents
series as a web database. Pre-1974 years of Science Citation Index are at
the Falconer Biology, Physics,
and Lane Medical Library. Alerts,
a current awareness service, that allows you to get an email message for new items on
topics of interest, is also available via LANL.
Intellectual Property/Research and Development
In order to claim intellectual property rights, a number of companies publish
research results in the patent literature rather than in the journal literature.
Approximately 70% of the information published in patents is not duplicted in journal
articles. Search by company name(s) to find information published by a particular
company.
- Derwent Biotechnology Resource (1982-) Stanford Only.
- Published by Derwent,
provides comprehensive coverage of publications describing research in the field
of biotechnology. It covers all aspects of biotechnology, including genetic
engineering, biochemical engineering, industrial uses of microorganisms,
fermentation, enzymes and cell culture, plant propogation, and waste disposal, as
reported in scientific journals, conference proceedings, and patents. Updated
quarterly. Stanford has a limited number of logins. Please Logout
when you are finished.

patents issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) from 1974 to present.
Also contains some patents issued during 1971-1973. Search by keyword, phrase, and
patent number; Boolean searches with patent number, title abstract, all claims,
assignee, inventors, and attorney/agent. Scanned images of full-text are available
for patents issued from 1974-present and can be displayed for free. All patent
references are hyperlinked for citation searching. Classification codes are also
hyperlinked to find similar patents granted. Provider: Delphion. See the
Patents page
for a list of additional patent
files and patent search aids.

- BioTrack Online - The Harmonization of Regulatory Oversight in Biotechnology
- BioTrack Online, the Web site of OECD’s Programme on the Harmonization of
Regulatory Oversight in Biotechnology, was created in 1995, as a pioneer

governments and industries with biotechnology product notifications/assessments,
but also to make the information, developed by the Expert Group on Harmonization
of Regulatory Oversight in Biotechnology, accessible to all who need it,
including non-OECD countries that might find it useful. Provider: OECD
(Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development).
- Information Systems for Biotechnology: Agbiotech Online
