Position Opportunities

Most of these jobs are short-term staff
development opportunities designed to help staff
broaden and upgrade skills, both within Technical
Services and beyond. In all cases, the intention
is to support staff growth so that in the next
round of adjustments their flexibility and
broadened skill set will position them for the
jobs in the next new environment. Fuller
descriptions are available verbally or in writing
from the contact persons.
Database Migration Project Support
Manager
.5 FTE librarian for 6 months, starting
immediately.
Manage the support piece of the migration of
citation files from Folio to Z39.50 server
(SiteSearch). Determine scope of backfiles;
collect and compare indexes available in Folio
and in SiteSearch for each of 8 citation files
(ERIC, BIOSIS, PsycInfo, etc.). Member of small
task force with P.S. and C.D. staff for the
migration project: propose, vet, and specify
content and indexes for delivery from
vendor.

Database Migration Project Support
Assistant
.25 FTE any level for 6 months, perhaps
continuing; starting June-ish.
Assist with the project to migrate citation files
from Folio to Z39.50 server (SiteSearch). Assist
with collecting and comparing indexes available
for citation files and acquiring the
backfiles.

Monograph Receiving Group--End Processing
Cross Training
.5 LSII starting approx. June 1
Opportunity available for a B&F staff member
to cross train in the newly-formed Monograph
Receiving Group (which combines the functions of
Receiving with those of Copy Cataloging). Receive
incoming monographs in NOTIS; select matching
copy from OCLC or RLIN; create Copy Holdings and
Item records; barcode; route to PUB. Also train
staff in Monograph Receiving to perform simple
end processing on monographs that do not require
binding. The position begins as .5 FTE; the
number of hours worked might be adjusted
depending on work flow.

Serials Receiving Group-- Mail opening
position
.5 LSI starting June 1
Open and sort incoming serial mail and assist
with processing weekly "Expired Action Request
Lists" in NOTIS.

Serials Receiving Group
1.0 LSII starting June 1
Process incoming serial materials, claim missing
issues, and monitor for lapsed serial titles in
an assigned section of the central Serial Records
manual file. Initiate and respond to supplier
correspondence. Process cancellations for
government document and non-government serial
orders. Perform record maintenance in the manual
file and in NOTIS.

Payments Group -- Monograph Receiving Cross
Training
.5 LSIII starting May 1
Opportunity for a Monograph Receiver to train in
the Payments Group. Process invoices in NOTIS.
Reconcile NOTIS accounting with Encina Accounts
Payable. Initiate and respond to correspondence
with suppliers regarding payments of invoices.
Maintain audit files.

Distribution Team of the OMC-- Team
Leader
1.0 LSIII starting May 1
Distribute and route materials received from the
Acquisitions Dept. to the Original Monograph
Cataloging Group. Process RUSH requests for
materials in process in cataloging. Recall
materials from PUB at the end of PUB cycle;
search for matching copy in OCLC and RLIN;
perform Push Button Cataloging when copy found.
Distribute materials for which matching copy is
not found to the Original Monograph Cataloging
Group. Direct a staff of .5 LSII and student
assistants to accomplish these functions.

Systems Department Internships
.20 FTE any level for 3 months, starting in
June, if approved.
Learn basic hardware and software support from
ground up by working 1 day a week in Systems
Department.
Support for Digital Initiatives
We project needs for staffing in the areas
below, but there is still a way to go before we
have clearer descriptions and expectations.
Further information likely will be available in
the coming months. Stay tuned.
1.0 LSII for 10 weeks (flexible?)
Scanning, correction, and markup for project to
digitize the Abbey Newsletter and the Alkaline
Paper Advocate.
1.0 LSII for 6 weeks (flexible?)
Document preparer for project to convert/create a
set of HTML or SGML documents about Special
Collections collections and services.
1.0 LSIII? unknown term
Create and maintain metadata; add, modify, and
delete items in SUL/AIR web pages; convert
documents to html; provide SGML markup; provide
scanning and OCR support; supervise student
assistants; manage projects. Training for all
these tasks will be provided. Perhaps
intermittent support for AV cataloging
