    Description
    Allen Ginsberg Papers collection  Primary subject area: Literature; fiction; poetry; short stories. This is a very large collections of books (numbering in the thousands). They are signed by Ginsberg, and because there is a fear that his autograph might tempt readers to cut out the page having the autograph, we are having them catalogued for and shelved in SAL 3, but for use in Special Collections only.
    Apple Library Collection Computer science, engineering, business, physics, education and general interest topics. Consists of serials, newspapers, newsletters, loose-leaf services, reference volumes, and some monographs not housed in Special Collections
    Brinner collection  Collections of monographs in all languages on the language, literature and history of the Arab world. Primary subject area(s): Arabic language and literature History of Islamic world and Middle East.
    British Poetry of the Romantic Period, 1789-1839   A collection of 1600 first or bibliographically significant early editions of poetry published in Britain from the French Revolution to the beginning of the Chartist Movement. See also: British Poetry of the Romantic Period 1789 to 1839 for a description of the collection.
    Cubberley government documents dewey/uncataloged backlog  A mix of foreign, U.S. state and U.S. local documents in printed form; monographs and serials. Most, but not all, of serial tiles are cataloged with abbreviated Dewey classification. Some, but not many, of the monographs are cataloged with similar classification numbers.
    Cubberley historical textbooks collection  Elementary and secondary school textbooks, including workbooks and grammar books, late18th century to the mid-1970 imprints, amounting to approx. 18,000 titles in 21,000 pieces. The pre-20th century collection is non-circulating, is shelved in locked stacks, and listed by title and subject in a file housed in the library. The 20th century textbooks is a circulating collection, shelved in open stacks, and listed by author, title, and subject in a file also located in the library. No climate or dust control in either stacks. There are no on-line records. Most of the 18th cent. titles are recorded on hand-written catalog cards but don"t appear cataloged. The 19th and 20th cent. imprints appear fully cataloged, with 1 subject access. In Western-European languages (chiefly English, French, German). About 60% or more of the collection are titles issued in monographic series, e.g. Elson's first reader, Elson's second reader, etc.
    Cubberley textbook Collection
    Historical textbooks to be add to the existing collections.
    Earl Barnes Education Pamphlet Collection Earl Barnes was the first head of the education department when Stanford opened. He collected a wide variety of pamphlets relating to education and bound them in subject groupings.
    Edna Kumpe Upton Memorial Erichsen Collection Approximately 700 titles on Egypt and Egyptology. About five percent will be designated for Special Collections, with the remainder to be processed for stacks. 
    Education Faculty Gifts Various gift collections consisting mainly of education topics donated over the years by faculty from Earl Barnes to the present.
    Electric Power Research Institute Technical Reports  
    EPRI engineering technical reports.  Primarily softcover with some in 3 ring binders. The collection was received from EPRI as part of a free deposit program that ended in the early 1990s.
    Eliasaf Robinson Collection on Tel Aviv
    Books and serials relating to the history of Tel Aviv, Israel.  All are 20th century imprints, and most date from before 1950.  Primary subject areas include: Israeli history, society and culture
    European architectural monuments and art collections: guidebooks and catalogs  Old guidebooks to European architectural monuments and catalogs of art collections, many dating back to the early 19th century.  
    Ezra Lahad collection  Purchased by Roger Kohn; to be processed by Zachary Baker Description: Well focused on Yiddish, Yiddish theater especially. Titles in Yiddish are rare. Up to 30% are 1918-1939 imprints; over 60% are imprints after WWII. Yiddish 62.5%, Hebrew 27.5%, non-H/Y 10%. (Hebraica non-dupes update: Yiddish 71%, Hebrew 29%, per test of 163 titles in May 2000.) Chiefly monographs, some serials. Overlap with Yiddish books from Harvard College. Problem: preservation aspect, brittle rate may be over 60%. (Brittle rate update: 80%, per review in June 2000.)
    Fernando Alegría Spanish American literature: Chilean poetry, non-Chilean Spanish American poetry, other literary works,  Some non-literary works.
    Foreign editions of the works of John Steinbeck  American Literature collection of translations and foreign editions of the works of John Steinbeck in various European and non-European languages. Of the 1213 books in the collection, 543 are hardcover and 670 are softcover.

    French language pamphlets on transportation issues, social questions, and colonialism, 20th century  French language materials from the NYPL pamphlet collection. French social history, railroads, colonial policies, women's issues This collection contains pamphlets on diverse subjects, but there are four groups of titles which make it interesting: socialism and social questions, transportation and industrialization, the colonies, and women’s issues.

    Hoover 13th Floor Slavic & East European books  Unprocessed Slavic & East European books from Hoover Institute Library, 13th floor. Materials cover all areas of Social sciences. Format appears to be mostly monographs 
    Hoover gift: Pre-WW II Ukraine collection (monographs)  Primarily military-related works (such as how to build a tank or an airplane, manufacturing of weapons and tools, war propaganda, battle-strategy) published between 1930 and 1940 in the former Soviet Union. Included are some peripheral materials (such as geology and agriculture of regions). In Russian (possibly up to 95%) and Ukrainian (possibly less than 5%), some Polish and other (1%). These are titles out of Hoover scope and part of a larger Pre-WW II Ukraine Collection donated to Hoover by the U.S. National Archives. Not all titles are originals, some are photocopies, reprints and off-prints

    Indiana Hungarian collection  Indiana University library's Hungarian duplicates. Items are primarily Hungarian language. Subject primarily the history of Hungary; also anthropology, ethnography, literature, and politics of Hungary
    John Gladchenko collection  The collection contains a mixture of subjects. Political philosophy seems to be the largest category. In smaller quantities are belles-lettres, the occult, emigres, etc. Projections: (e.g. guides and aids, vendor cataloging) ~ 40%--B--BX class (Philosophy, Religion, Occult science, Theology); ~20%--H class (Sociology, Economics); 20%--DK (History, Ethnology, Politics); 20%--P (Literature, Literary criticism, Languages, & translations.
    Joseph H. Greenberg collection  This collection is the non-archival portion of Joseph Greenberg's gift to the Libraries and consists of such materials as dictionaries, grammars, works on general theoretical linguistics, some anthropology. Monographs and serials; most serials will be deselected. Predominantly in Western European languages, some titles in Russian, Greek and other languages studied in Greenberg's research. Early 20th century imprints for the most part.

No signs of infestation observed. Gift by Neda Tomasevich, daughter of Stanford"s Prof. Jozo Tomasevich who died about a year ago.

    Michael H. Jameson collection  Scholarly imprints in the field of Classics 
    Noel Behn Papers Library Books from Noel Behn's personal library, containing a comprehensive collection of Noel Behn's published works in various editions and translations. Behn was a Stanford University graduate, known as a novelist, screenwriter, theatrical producer and actor.
    N.V. Borsoff collection  Literature, pedagogy, history; some science. Primarily in Russian, late 19th- & early 20th-century books. Many translations.
    Oshman project leftover  The "Oshman Project, 1995-2000" was conducted from mid-1995 through August 31, 2000 with a goal to process an estimated 28,000 titles/32,000-34,000 volumes of materials from a number of collections acquired during the Hebraica/Judaica Campaign in 1995 and 1996. Estimated total of 6000 titles have remained to be processed. The primary reason for the leftover was the shortage of skilled staff during the last year of the project and receiving some replacement copies for brittle titles (i.e., hits*) after the end of project funding. Of the total leftover, 46% are titles from collections and 54% are extraneous titles on multi-title reels.

    Paris Commune collection  The Paris Commune Collection consists of over one thousand titles dating from 1870 to the present. Its provenance is Mr. Robert Le Quillec, a collector and bibliographer of the event. Included among the titles are personal and journalistic accounts of the Commune, memoirs, historical monographs, contemporary posters, journals and individual and bound articles. Paris Commune (1871), Franco-Prussian War, workers' rights, 19th century French socialism
    Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Library Collection Monographs and serials from RFE/RL library, received by Hoover along with RFE/RL archives. All material is from the 20th century.  Mainly social sciences, with some literature.
    Rifat Bali collection  Jewish religion, history and culture in Turkey; Jewish contribution to Turkish culture; and Turkish (Muslim) - Jewish relations. The collection includes Jewish religious texts, Judeo-Spanish literature, Israel and the Middle East, the "Jewish Question" (by non-Jewish authors who are not well disposed toward Jews), works by Turkish Jewish authors on a range of general topics (tourism, cookbooks, etc.) -- illustrating Jews' participation in Turkish society.

    Russian dissertations abstracts  Abstracts of dissertations submitted at various universities in U.S.S.R. and Russian Federation on various aspects of the Russian language. In Russian. Imprints: 1952 trough 1998, predominantly from the 1970-es and 1980-ies.

    Samson / Copenhagen Judaica collection  Hebrew monographic titles, half dating from the 16th through the 18th centuries, and almost all of the remainder from 1800-1914. These include imprints from throughout Europe (including Constantinople), especially northwestern Europe (Amsterdam, Hamburg/Altona, Frankfurt, other cities through-out Germany), as well as such far-flung places as Calcutta and Marrakesh. Many volumes contain marginal notes by rabbinical (and in some cases Christian) scholars. The oldest imprint in the collection is a volume of responsa by Asher ben Yehiel (ca. 1250-1327), She’elot u-teshuvot leha-Rosh, printed in Constantinople, 1517. The Collection also includes a few dozen manuscripts and ephemeral items (photo-graphs, notes). A copy of the Seller’s card catalog (covering over 90% of the Collec-tion’s titles) accompanies the Collection.     Venezky collection   Early American English language reading textbooks and associated materials: reading study and teaching. One box of microfiche "American Primers"to be cataloged for Cubberley. No user's guide provided with the gift collection. Curator will attempt to procure a guide.
    Washington Baltic Collection The collection is a gift from the University of Washington's Baltic languages duplicate books and serial issues.
    Western Languages collection, Stanford Center for Buddhist Studies Library   Collections and Services has made an agreement with the Religious Studies Faculty that EAL/SUL will catalog the holdings of the Stanford Center for Buddhist Studies Library. The full collection consists of ca. 4000 volumes in Chinese and Japanese language materials to be processed by EAL and 1200 volumes in various languages, primarily English, to be processed by Metadata Department. About 100 of these items are in Thai, Indian languages, Korean, etc.). Some of these items have been flagged by faculty for return to the EAL or Green as appropriate. After cataloging, many are to remain in the SCBS library
    William Saroyan Collection Non-Western language (translation) editions of Saroyan's fiction titles.

    Women in the Director's Chair Archive   The archive of Women in the Director’s Chair, consisting of three parts:
    (a) papers documenting the creators of the films featured in the film festivals sponsored by Women in the Director’s Chair, along with documentation of the organization itself, the history of the festival, and other programming initiatives;
    (b) approximately 1000 videos, either publicly shown under the auspices of Women in the Director’s Chair or donated to the organization for purposes of non-commercial, educational use; and
    (c) a website of the Women in the Director’s Chair, which includes an out-of-date searchable database of its holdings of film and video programs. In all, the collection comprises roughly 50 boxes of media materials (primary videotape) and 30 boxes of archival materials, including filmmaker files, programming notes, festival notes, ephemera, and tour-related information.

    Yevgeny Yevtushenko collection   Books that were purchased at same time as Yevtushenko's papers. Mostly literature, in Russian and English. Also includes a multitude of translations of his works.
