SUL Cataloging Policy: Treatment of 090 on Copy

    TO: Catalogers
    FR: Willy Cromwell-Kessler
    RE: 090
    DATE: 3/19/96

This note is intended to confirm our decisions today concerning variant edition or copy assisted cataloging based on OCLC copy with 090.

    Variant Edition Cataloging (Derived Original):

The finished record should have an 050 _4 and a pre-existing 090 on the source record used for VE cataloging will be deleted (it may be edited by changing the 090 tag to 050 _4).

Copy or Copy Assisted Cataloging (Enhanced Copy):

    1. Matching copy with an acceptable LC call number: It is not necessary to input an 050 or to delete a pre-existing 090

    2. Copy lacks an LC call number: Input the number in an 050 _4 as well as in the NOTIS copy holding record.

    3. Copy has an LC call number in an 090, but SUL uses another number
