MARC Unit Monographic Original Cataloging Material Flow

    (Excludes Hebrew Materials)
    1. Class Unit (CLASS) staff pick up books from Mono Receiving area.

    2. CLASS staff sort MARC non-Slavic incoming into 6 subject areas:
      • Humanities (Archeology, history, philosophy, psychology, religion, etc.)
      • Arts
      • Gov Docs
      • Language & Literature
      • Science (*)
      • Social Sciences (including Education)

      • Slavic books will be on separate shelves (belles lettres arrive sorted out)
    3. Sorted books are reviewed and picked up by original catalogers daily or as needed.
[There is a sign out sheet to record the number of books each cataloger takes.]

    4. Catalogers add a 910 routing note in Unicorn:
      MARCUnit/year/month/day/individual cataloger's initials
      910: :MARCUnit/2005/04/25/XXX

Books to be rerouted should be placed on a specially marked book truck; the 910s will be removed at the time of rerouting.

    5. At the completion of cataloging, catalogers replace the 910 routing note in Unicorn with a new date in the following format:
      MARCUnit/day month year/individual catalogers initials
      910: :MARCUnit/30 March 2005/XXX

    6. Cataloged books are placed on an outgoing book truck picked up daily by Materials Control (MC) staff.

    * Science monographs are placed on the shelving in MCL's area.
