    Materials Control Unit

    General Purpose

    The Materials Control Unit is responsible for managing materials that are in-process in the Metadata Department. The unit also processes a variety of material types not acquired through mainstream commercial channels.


    Scope

    • copy catalog materials in all languages (except CJK, ME, Hebrew and esoteric languages) from incoming gifts, large collections and Slavic exchange.
    • create (transliterating as required) or load, edit as necessary and route items to other units within the Metadata Department when copy not available
    • add copy/volumes to existing records when encountered in routine processing
    • create records for Stanford Ph. D., Masters & Honors theses, student reports and technical reports
    • process patron requests for INPROCESS materials
    • route by subject incoming materials from Monograph Receiving to MDU unit catalogers in the Metadata Department
    • search MISSING INPROCESS items and initiate re-order as needed
