Monograph Receiving Unit Guidelines
Processing Serials supplied on EDI Approval
Evaluating the record:
- De-dup the serial title in Unicorn. If it is a duplicate for any shelving location in SUL, evaluate and process as non-returnable dup.
- If the record type is SERIAL (rather than MARC), it is probably a serial. See example below for other indications that a serial record was supplied. Serial fields are in bolded red.

Receiving the piece and placing on Selector Shelves:
- Receive following normal procedures except add this TECHSTAFF note in the Volume/Copy screen: EDI RECEIPT/<your initials>/Eval to <selector initials> for Serial subscription decision <date>
- Example: EDI RECEIPT/lac/Eval to HEL for Serial subscription decision 5/22/2006
- Put Serial Approval flag (in EDI Folder in Forms Folder) along with the vendor slip and colored flag in the piece and place on selector shelf.
Removing from Selector Shelves:
- Check flag to find selector decision.
- If decision is : Yes, place a subscription, leave Serial Approval flag in piece and change the TECHSTAFF note to: EDI RECEIPT/<your initials>/ACQSERIALSUnit <today's date>. Put piece on Serial Approval shelf.
- If decision is: No subscription wanted. Catalog this issue only, leave Serial Approval flag in piece and change TECHSTAFF note to: EDI RECEIPT/<today's date>/<your initials>/(issue number) single issue, no subscription . Put piece on MARC shelf (under animal heads in Serials Dept.). Add the following 910 routing note: MONORECUnit/<dd Mmmm YYYY>/<your initials>/CATMARCUnit
