    Monograph Receiving Unit Guidelines

    066 Character Set

    Field Definition and Scope

    The field contains information specifying the character sets present in the record whenever a set other than the ASCII, ANSEL,  USMARC Greek, USMARC subscript or USMARC superscript character set is present. The field alerts user that special processing may be required. It is often used in conjunction with field 880 (Alternate Graphic Representation) in USMARC records.

    Policy

    Records which contain an 066 field will not be exported to RLIN.

    Guidelines

    • For Hebraica copy, keep the value in the 066 field from "|c(2".
    • Delete the 066 field for all other copy.
    • Delete all related subfield delimiters present in other variable fields up to and including the delimiter "|a".
      • format:        |6880-<##>
        examples:    |6880-01|a,   |6880-02|a,   |6880-04|a,  etc.

        Be careful not to delete any characters following "|a".
