    Art Library Book Processing Instructions

    Book Jackets and Boxes

The Art library makes specialized use of book jackets and book boxes once they reach their shelving location.

Please use the following guidelines when processing Art Library materials:

    • All book jackets remain with books (do not barcode as if all book jackets will be retained; only if indicated by standard means: flag, 940)
    • All book boxes remain with books (follow book barcoding guidelines)

    Art Library Locked Stacks

    Size Designations

    • There are three locked stack designations in Symphony for Art Library. Therefore, one needs to determine which of the three Locked Stack locations should be asigned depending on the size outlined below:
Volumes up to 31 cm. art, lcks
    Volumes from 31 through 38 cm. art,lckm
    Volumes over 38 cm. art,lckl

    Barcoding

    • If the selector has requested to see the item before making a location decision, do not barcode the item until after the location decision has been made (just in case the item may end up in the Locked Stacks).
    • Items designated for Locked Stachs should not be marked, stamped or barcoded.
      • Affix a piggy back barcode to the accompanying printout of the volume copy screen. The Art Library will transfer the barcode to a slip of acid-free paper that will remain with the item.

    Routing

    • Insert an ART,LCK flag
    • If there isn't a good copy cataloging record available, rout to MARC for cataloging in the 910 (place on the MC shelf for delivery).
    • Copy cataloged items should be hand delivered to Binding & Finishing (there is a special area for Locked Stack materials).
