Fascicules
fas ci cle n.
Abbr. fasc. … 2. One of the parts of a book published
in separate sections. Also called fascicule.
Examples:
A dictionary published in parts and not necessarily in sequence
An encyclopedia published in parts
Another indication that the piece in hand is a fascicle is that
the page numbering continues pagination from previous volumes.
Summary of differences from receiving sets
- ITEMs are not created for fascicules at the time of
receipt. ITEMs will be created for each group of fascicules
when they are bound as a volume.
- Fascicules are not barcoded at time of receipt.
- MHLDs reflect the bound/unbound status of the fascicules. Since
branches are responsible for binding, we are only responsible
for adding unbound fascicules to the record.
Examples:
Library has: 866 _0 |80|av.1,(unb fasc.1-2)
Library has: 866 _0 |80|av.1-15. fasc.121.
fasc.122/123. fasc.124-131.
fasc.132/134. fasc.135,fasc.137
Library has: 866 _0 |80|av.1-2; fasc.37-45
- Books are routed to B&F for property stamps/targets only.
The call # should be written in pencil in the upper left hand
corner of the front cover. The shelving location should be written
in the upper right hand corner of the front cover. Put a "fascicle"
flag in the piece.
Procedure (the short version)
- Find the order for the title and verify that order type is
STANDING (or SUBSCRIPT). If it is FIRM, give
to the appropriate ordering staff to 'correct' the order type
before proceeding.
- Receive fascicule on an order transaction line. Create one
if necessary by using the RECEIVE ORDER wizard Do not create an ITEM for the fascicule at
this time. Do not barcode material. If received correctly up to
this point, it should be impossible to find the ID field to input
a barcode.
- EDIT the MHLD. Do not create or edit the 505 field. Follow
established syntax when possible.
- Route to B&F with a Fascicle flag. The call # should be
written in pencil in the upper left corner of the front cover,
the shelving location in the upper right.
- Count on your statistics in the 'av' category.
