    Music Materials

The Music Library catalogs only M-class (M, ML, MT) materials for all  SUL libraries, that is, all material (except serials & electronic resources) with music-related topics. M class includes materials about music or consisting of music. They do not catalog any non M-class material, regardless of the library it is to be shelved in, including the Music Library, ARS or CCRMA. In cases of doubt whether an item is really about music, send it to Music  and they will decide.

    The Music Library catalogs:

    •  All scores in all languages
    •  All musical sound recordings in any carrier. This includes movie soundtracks. (Non-musical sound recordings go to MARC).
    •  All music video recordings in any carrier (e.g., musical performances and documentaries about composers). Non-music video recordings go to MARC.
    •  All music microforms (in either book or score format, but not serial format).
    • All M-class books for any location that do not meet current criteria for copy cataloging of M-class books. (See current criteria below.)
    • All M-class books with accompanying materials where the accompanying material is NOT in PAPER format.  Paper formats include errata, addenda, maps, charts, plans). The book is the main work.

    •
