Adding Springer Series Links

We receive the print + online for the following Springer titles:

Directions for adding links to issues of a Springer monographic series after the record has been imported:

• DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!! Before you procede with any of the following steps check to make sure that there is a record online for the volume in hand.
  • Click on the link for the series listed in the table above.
  • Search the Springer site for the volume in hand.
  • If there is a record, procede with the steps for adding the URL
  • If there is no record available on the Springer website, make a printout of the bibliographic screen, add your initials and date to the printout, and place it in the "Missing Links" box.
• In Modify Title create an empty field in the Symphony bibliographic record to be used as an 856 field.

• 856s imported with the record should be deleted. We want only one specific URL per record.
• Use a Keyboard Express command to enter the following text:
• 856 41 |zAvailable to Stanford-affiliated users at:|u

• Copy the correct series URL (called the base URL) listed in the table above.
  • DO NOT copy the URL from the Springer web page - use the table above only.

• Paste the copied base URL in the 856 field directly after the:|u (no space)
• Type "&volume=[volume number]" at the end of the URL (no spaces)
  • Example: http://www.springerlink.com/openurl.asp?genre=journal&issn=0302-9743&volume=4113

• Add the following fields to the bibliographic record:

  Field	Value
  007	cr||||
  040	$dCSt
  530	Also available on the World Wide Web.

  • We will accept existing 007 and 530 fields as long as they meet the following requirements:
    • The first two characters of the 007 are "cr"
    • The 530 indicates that the title is available online
  • To create/add an 007 field in Java:
    • Add a field
    • Enter 007
    • Tab to or click on the contents field, which will open this window



• Highlight "c" and click OK



• Several fields will open up after you hit OK
• Tab down to the second field and replace the | with "r"
• Click on the arrow next to "Fixed field data [Rep]" to collapse all of the 007 fields, which will give you this display:



• Don't worry about the * displaying in the 007 after the cr.

• Create a SUL INTERNET RESOURCE call/copy segment
• Call Number: INTERNET RESOURCE
• Class Scheme: ASIS
• Library: SUL
• Type: SUL
• Home Location: INTERNET
• Current Location: INTERNET

Adding Links to Multi-Volume Records:

• Create an additional 856 field for each additional volume in the following format:
  • 856 41 |3[volume or part number]|zAvailable to Stanford-affiliated users at:|u

  Example:

  |3v.1:|zAvailable to Stanford-affiliated users at:|uhttp://www.springerlink.com/openurl.asp?genre=issue&issn=0302-9743&volume=3043

• Do not use the Series number as the volume or part number (e.g., v.3043 instead of v.1)
  
• DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!! Please check your links after you have finished updating the records to verify that the library users will have good access to the correct titles/volumes.
  • Click "OK" when you are finished modifying your record.
  • Click on "Review"
  • From the Review screen you will be able to click on the link that you just added.
