Entering author names

Enter the author's last name only or last name followed by two initials.

• watson
  OR
• watson jd

• If you enter only one initial (watson j), you will not retrieve papers in which the author used a middle initial.

Truncation

Use the question mark if you don't know the author's middle initial:

• watson j? <or> watson j
• simoni r? <or> simoni r

Names containing hyphens or apostrophes

Apostrophes in author names are used in searching for most years, but for best results, search for the name with and without the apostrophe:

• o'brien <or> obrien

When searching hyphenated last names, search for both the hyphenated and non-hyphenated forms:

• garciamarquez <or> garcia-marquez

Boolean searching:

You can combine author names using OR or AND:

• simoni rd <and> mcgee t?
