The default sort is relevance rankRecords containing the largest number of occurrences of your search terms are placed near the top of the list of records retrieved.
Records in which your search terms appear in the title are ranked higher than records in which search terms are in the abstract.
Scores show the potential relevance of each record.
To sort by date, select Date next to Sort results by.Most recent records appear at the top of the list of results.
To sort by source, select Source next to Sort results by.Records are in alphabetical order by journal title.
Sorting by source is useful when retrieving articles from journals in the library if journals are shelved alphabetically by title.
To sort by author, select Author next to Sort results by.Records are in alphabetical order by first author.
To sort by article title, select Title next to Sort results by.Records are in alphabetical order by article title.
To sort by number of times cited, select Times cited next to Sort results by.Records for items cited the largest number of times in journals indexed in SciSearch appear at the top of the list of records retrieved.
In the list of results, click on a title to see the full record, which includes the number of times the item has been cited.
- Sorting by the number of times cited tends to favor older articles; the newest articles have not yet been cited.
- Articles in subjects that are less well indexed in SciSearch (for example, articles in earth sciences and engineering) may have been cited in literature not indexed in SciSearch.
- Keep in mind that SciSearch does not index government documents, technical reports, or other non-journal literature.
