Finding Call Numbers for Other Magazines and Periodicals
- In Socrates (Stanford's web catalog) click on the red
Browse search button.
- In the Browse screen, click on the button for Periodical Ttitle
- In the Starting Point box, type the beginning words of the title of the journal and
press Enter/Return key or click on the Browse button. (Don’t use the title of the article! Socrates doesn’t list
articles.)
- From the list of periodicals you retrieve, select your title by clicking on it.
- The next screen is usually the BRIEF display. To see what the library owns
you need to look at the DETAILED display.
- Click on the red Long button by the entry you wish to know more about. (If
only one record is found you will go immediately to the DETAILED display.)
- At the bottom of the DETAILED display, you will see what the Library owns
and the call
number to the journal.
- Use a Stack Directory
the find where in the library the call number is located in the library.
Circulation & Bindery Information
To see if a volume is checked out, is at the bindery, on hold, etc., look
at the DETAILED record. At the bottom of the screen, near the call number,
any items that are checked out or at the bindery will be listed.
Requesting Material from the Stanford Auxiliary Library
- Search in Socrates for the item you need.
- Look at the DETAILED display; at the bottom of the screen you will see a
link "page
this item". Click on it to reach the paging form.
- Fill in the information requested. Allow 24 hours for staff to retrieve the item;
go to the Loan Desk to pick it up.
- Bring the call number (including volume/year, etc.)
