Searching for Information

• Socrates is the online catalog with information on books, periodicals, films, recordings, computer files, archives and other library materials available to students at Stanford.
• Research Quick Start Guides tell you about some of the best reference works in paper and electronic formats to help you know where to start your research.
• Encyclopedias and Handbooks is a selected list of sources (in paper and electronic formats) that can provide useful descriptions, overviews, and lists of references.
• Indexes is a selected list of indexes (in paper and electronic formats) that can help you identify articles in magazines, newspapers, scholarly journals and other resources.
• Databases (Alphabetical List) lists many online indexes and bibliographies, as well as many other online resources for those at Stanford.
• Library of Congress Call Numbers allow you to identify which sections of the reference collections in the Information Center, Social Sciences Resource Center Reading Room, and Humanities and Area Studies Resource Reading Room to browse.
• Image Sources for Students in PWR — a selected list.
• Audio Sources for Students in PWR — a selected list.

Getting the Materials You Need

• The Online Tour of Green Library will help you learn about the many resources available to you in the largest of libraries on campus, but note that there are many libraries on campus, including Special Collections and University Archives on the second floor of the Green Bing Wing and the Hoover Institution Library and Archives. You'll find a map online and at the Information Center Desk. You'll also find library hours online and in paper handouts.
• Green Library Shelving Locations will help you determine where in Green the call numbers you are seeking are shelved. Another option is to look at the clickable Green Library Stack Layout. Both the shelving locations list and the stack layout have links to floorplans for Green Library.
• The E-Journals page lists periodicals available in fulltext on the Web.
• Document Delivery Online Request Forms allow you to ask us to get items from other libraries that we do not have at Stanford. You are not charged for this service, but make sure you really need the materials you request and give us 3-4 weeks to get them.
