Reference and Information Services
Reference and information services include:
- instruction
and help in using libraries and their resources through tours, workshops,
handouts, and assistance at a reference point.
- help in determining where to look for information — which libraries, reference works, or databases might best meet your needs.
- help with using various forms of electronic catalogs and
indexes
- mediated database searches (may require a fee)
- help with making interlibrary
loan requests
Reference Policies
General, Humanities, and Social Sciences
Green Library Information Center
provides general reference assistance, help with Socrates and electronic
databases, plus in-depth reference service in the social sciences and
humanities.

Science, Engineering, and Medical Libraries
Reference services are offered to current Stanford
students, faculty, and staff. Other users should consult
library web pages to see if/what reference services are
available.
