Use of the Stanford University Libraries
Visitors to the libraries are responsible for complying
with all Stanford University Libraries’ regulations, and for
all fines, fees and losses incurred. The Libraries
reserve the right to deny use to individuals who
abuse library privileges or in any way infringe on the priority
rights of Stanford faculty, staff, or students. Library privileges
may be revoked at any time.
Non-Stanford Users -
Visitors to Stanford with no formal affiliation to the University
may visit the campus branches of SULAIR for a limited number of
times.
Visitor access to the Libraries is provided free of charge for 7 days
within a 12-month period (beginning the first day of registration.) These days need not be consecutive. Visitors seeking
a courtesy pass must register at the main entrance of Green Library. Visitors must present a valid, government-issued photo ID
card.
Following the allotted number of visits, non-Stanford users may
choose to purchase further access privileges on a fee
basis through the Privileges Office at Green Library. In addition, they
may opt to purchase simultaneous borrowing privileges.
For further information, please see:
Purchasing Access/Borrowing Privileges:
Reciprocal Borrowing/Access Users -
Some institutions have reciprocal borrowing arrangements with
Stanford. To determine if your institution has such arrangements,
please check the links below.
Please note, not all reciprocal agreements allow you to borrow
directly at Stanford; some allow only interlibrary borrowing between
the university and Stanford. Check the particulars of each program
for more information.
Jonsson Library of Government Documents -
The Jonsson Library is a depository
for the publications of a number of government agencies and is thus
open to the public. Its collections are housed in the Green Library's
Bing Wing. Reference assistance is available at Green's Information
Center Desk.
Non-Stanford users must register as a visitor before using the Jonsson Library.
Special Collections is open to researchers -
Visitors, please be sure to indicate that you are using Special
Collections when you register at Green. Due to the rare and
unique nature of the materials stored in Special Collections, researchers
are not allowed to browse the department's stacks.
However, patrons
are welcome to request that materials be brought to the department's
reading room for their use on the second floor of Green Library's
Bing Wing, Rm. 200. Paging slips for requested items must be turned
in by 5 p.m. for a return time of 11:30 a.m. the following morning
or by 12 noon for a return time of 4 p.m. of the same day.
To request an item, patrons must complete a paging slip in the
Special Collections reading room or send an email request to speccoll@stanford.edu.
