Course Reserves

Reserve Guidelines: Media

Reserve lists for media material may be submitted at any time throughout the quarter; however, those instructors needing material to be on reserve at the beginning of the quarter should observe the due date below. This will allow time for ordering, processing, recalling, etc. Lists submitted during the first 3 weeks of class can take 1 to 2 weeks to process and are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that it takes approximately 6 weeks to order/receive a new title. Print reserves should be submitted on a separate web form or delivered directly to the print reserves office.

All material put on reserve must comply with U.S. Copyright Law.

RESERVE REQUESTS FOR ANY QUARTER ARE DUE BY THE 15thOF THE MONTH BEFORE THAT QUARTER BEGINS.

SUBMITTING MEDIA REQUESTS

  • You may submit your reserves list using the standard print form (SUL33) or via our web form. Paper forms may be hand delivered, sent through ID mail, or faxed. Our ID mail code is 6004. Our fax number is (650) 723-3992. We do not accept reserves lists via email.
  • Provide complete citations, specifying director, etc. when important.
  • Call numbers must be provided. Please obtain call numbers from theweb based version of Socrates.
  • Media materials are routinely given a 3 hour loan period, unless an exceptionis necessary.
  • Requests to order media material which we do not own and which are needed for course reserves should be done well ahead of time in order to insure that the material is received in time. Requests may be placed via email to jleggett@stanford.edu or by electronic form.
PERSONAL MATERIALS
  • Personal copies of materials can be put on reserve. Pleasebring personal copies to the Media-Microtext service desk, with your completedreserves list.
  • These materials will receive some minimal processing (e.g.labels applied) and can be retrieved whenever you no longer need them onreserve.
RESERVATIONS (Bookings) vs. RESERVES
  • Please be aware that placing a short-term reservation (booking) on a title is NOT the same thing as placing a title on course reserve. For short-term reservations you may fill out our web form or supply the following information:
    1. Title of media (usually a video).
    2. Call number, as found in web based Socrates
    3. Date needed and for what period of time
    4. Your name, email, and phone number.
  • Reserved materials will be held for the date/time of your viewing.
For further information about any of the above, contact JoeLeggette at jleggett@stanford.edu or (650) 725-1179.
